In more news trickling in, it would appear that one of the competitors made a reasonably unsceduled trip to the hospital after the race to receive a top up of fluids to the tune of 6 bags... The usual doctor talk of melting muscles was bandied around as well, but I think if you can go flat strap for 24 hours, whatdaya reckon is going to happen to your muscles - they aren't going to be that stoked with you now are they...
Something else I noticed at the race, the 'rules' that were in place, perhaps they were a little open to interpretation? A downhill feed zone where the directive was supposed to be get off and walk ( a good idea given the situation, but I'm sure the racers would have hated it) but that went by the wayside. Bottles flicked into the crowd leaning over the fence, high speed bottle changes, feeds at the top and bottom end of feed, I'm not sure a downhill feed is the greatest idea? The rules stated that there was only to be one feed zone, but there was certainly riders receiving assistance out on course. What happened to honest racing? Or maybe its part and parcel of racing for a prize...
Whatever however, it turned out to be a good honest head to head race, so from pit lane, it was entertaining.
