Family on tour

With the family loaded up for a 2 week trip north, we hit the road. Destination, Gold Coast for a visit with Chris and Stella. Route - to be decided on the way. GO....!

The canola was in full bloom on the way north, through central NSW. Field after field would have looked amazing from the air, but being ground dwellers we only got to look across the field.

Coming down off the edge of the plateau yielded some pretty spectacular views.

And a bit of following our nose lead us to the Clarence River at Tabulum. In their wisdom, no real part of their town had access to the water and when its such a pretty river, I couldn't really understand it. But we found a way none the less...

Jenson liked it, as it was pretty bloody hot as well. He did quickly learn that he couldn't outswim the current tho, so opted for the calm water pretty quickly!

As is customary whilst in the car, we dropped in to Mt Panorama for a lap. Never ceases to amaze me how steep that place is, I recommend everyone has a go one day, its open road!

And they hand touch-up every sign around the track - stuff that!!

And we did make it to the Gold Coast, where the sun did indeed shine for us!

I took this photo early one morning, and didn't realise how scary it looked until later. The dogs were happily playing together, but this image just made it look much angrier.

Poolside...

And I think someone had moved after their swim in the pool, judging by the dog shaped wet spot...

Southbound to Nambucca heads for a couple of nights, we scored more great weather. Each morning and evening you'd see the whales commuting offshore in their migration. Bit far out for good images, but a cool sight every day.

We sussed out a new car for the future, Toyota Tundra (see the plates?)

Jenson was a big fan of our early morning walks for photos.

Jenson even learnt a bit of body surfing, complete with a stick in mouth.

The dolphins were trying to steal the whales thunder by showing off too.

And then further south we decided to get one of those beach permit things they love in NSW and hit the sand. Why we can't do this in Vic just confuses me, but I'll enjoy it any time I can!

Turns out this yellow light that looked quite pretty was actually from a fire. Just where this photo was taken is a campsite where you leave the beach. We headed up there to continue on our journey, only to find a wasteland of camp equipment, and two confused rangers... Turns out the camp ground had been rapidly evacuated as a large bushfire was getting rowdy nearby. Apparently it was quite a big deal (this article leans that way) but we all had a bit of a chat, aired up and continued on our way :) The rangers seemed happy for the distraction from guarding empty tents...

This is a cool shot of the smoke thats being pushed around in the wind, with some cool light being cast from behind the clouds.

So thats it, long drive home via Canberra to see a few people, and start thinking about the next trip

Where are you off to??!
