And in the final installment of work avoidance....
ScubaSteve came up will with some tricky lighting! What do you think of this? A simple 3LED head torch was able to create this image, and a reasonable camera.
And with a 30 second exposure, we were also able to capture our campsite.
Our final day on the beach took us again through some great sights, and ending the road at Robe was bittersweet. Finding Subaru's further down the track than we thought possible signaled the end of the fun stuff, and with some decent caffienation at Robe, we hit the highway north for the Border Track
Em's chinese laundry was in full effect, with undies adorning every part of the truck for a length of time. Cargo barriers have so many uses, it would seem...
Long, straight and semi arid desert... And rough going to boot. But uniquely beautiful.
Atop the Red Bluff. Perhaps the lack of features might have something to do with the facial expressions, but I'm sure it was just the lungs sucking in the O2 after the strenuous 6m vert. hike...
Did I mention the border is straight? This is the border between SA and Vic. Literally. There is a small fence on the left, left to rust in the late 50's, aside from that it could be described as featureless.
And then we hit the Murray River!!!
After the pointless ocean fishing experience, I decided to change 'bait' or 'lure' or whatever the hell ET calls them... The novel 'birds nest' attractor bait just didn't seem to be working for me....
Preeeety....
How about chocolate hot pots? Double boiled in the oven, no less. The food was just amazing, from chicken risotto, to lamb roast, beef roast, pasta and other glorious meals. The food was certainly a standout, and proved that being outside is no reason to live out of tins...!!
Camera trickery once more. There has been no editing of either of these shots! (really!!)
Dawn.
And onto the Old Mail Road from Renmark through to Mildura. We did this section alone to speed ahead to visit someone in Mildura, and amusingly didn't get to see the sign that said 'dry weather road only' as there was one at the other end...
For a desert, there was a hell of a lot of water and slick clay
You can see the vastness of the water in the rear view mirror. There was as much mud on the roof as the doors, from the roost off the tires. Simply driving in a straight line, no wheel spin was still flicking huge amounts of mud, so when it got exciting at full noise, 4th gear, there was a *lot* more mud...!
Hitting the middle of anything like this was way silly, we would honestly have no way out. The clay was like glue, and not hard enough to support nearly 2 ton of truck...
And as a parting shot, we visited someone, and overnight some (plenty) of the mud decided to slip off the truck and soil the driveway. We tried our best to fix it, but perhaps it was just better to leave the scene, as I'm sure the neighbors are still talking about the filthy, huge truck in the driveway...
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, I'll chuck up some other amusing stuff as it comes to hand, perhaps a few little vids or whatever, but that'll do for now!
