Burfday schmurfday...

I'm not a big birthday guy. But I'll use something to my advantage if the opportunity arises, so if I can guilt people into coming on a trip where I get to ride a moto, and everyone gets a long boozy lunch at a relaxed country winery, and then we retreat back to camp in the hills, you bet I'm going to do it!

Birthday, schmerthday, lets go to the King Valley.

The weather forecast looked crackin, after a crap week in Melbourne so with a long death march up the backroads, we aborted the final push into camp at about 1am and chose the marginally closer camp with 2 less river crossings and 2 hours of walking pace towing the trailers. Smart move I thought, and we crashed out pretty hard. Actaully, I lie, we drank a bit to calm the caffiene, then we crashed out...

A river side camp greeted us in the morning, as it hovered around 1 degree. A good layer of frost had settled in the valley, and the youngster was doing some good hiding under the covers. As was the dog, if I'm honest... After some coffee time and general camp type duties, it was time to appease the kids (in all of us) and roll out the fun machines. Our little mates are getting more and more confident on their little bikes, and it was even time for the youngest to get his first ride. And he loved it!

There may be one of these getting put together in preparation for a growth spurt, or a 10th birthday, whichever comes sooner...!

  Can you see any likeness...?

Not everyone was having the best weekend, by the look of things..

Some behind the scenes work. Makin' the magic, haha. I guess they aren't all iphone photos.

After everyone had moved away from the fire and retired, I decided to roll on from last weeks success of shooting some longer exposures, and it seemed to work quite well.

Stepping out from behind the camera on a 30sec exposure and a quick bit of light painting seemed to work ok as well. Nothing exciting, but a little bit of progression I guess.

And then just as quickly, it rolled into daylight and we got out for a moto ride. Along the way, we found some awesome trails, tried to spy the amazing views through the trees, and enjoyed riding the beuatiful high country without another soul, in a another remote part of the state. So much fun was being had that the cameras didn't get a look in, just plenty of laughing and smiles. It was a bloody good ride, probably made better by the effort it took to get it all done with logistics, locations, riders and the like.

These shots were a little rock escarpment we stumpbled across, at the top of the King Valley. The lake is visible in one of the shots, and well behind that is our camp. Further down the valley begins the wineries and its to there we headed.

With a quick rap down the pavement, we rolled into Dalz Otto winery, much to the bemusement of the guests. 2 guys on noisy dirt bikes didn't exactly blend in, but once Jason stomped through the dining room looking like a rodeo clown, and retrieved some keys to make ourselves look civilized, they started to relax. Not really, the owner of the place loved that we had combined a ride and a visit, and I have a feeling we'll be able to explore more of the area with his help!

So its a pretty rubbish place to laze away and afternoon...

Take a well behaved dog to amuse the other patrons and play football with the kids (I think he won actually)

Someone helped himself to a few baskets of chips, and washed it down with a few bowls of dipping sauce..

And I took a few too many gopro shots at arms reach, or a 'selfie' as the kids call them.

And of course we finished the night out back at camp with a dance party!

And that was Easter and Anzac day long weekends, wonder where we can go next?! 25cm of snow forecast at hotham this week. Seems the delusions continue up on the mountain...!
